How to Grow Your TikTok Account as a UGC Creator

How to Grow Your TikTok Account as a UGC Creator

My new TikTok account was in a totally new for me niche (beauty), as is this blog, so I started growing from scratch.

As a UGC creator, you too might want to be on TikTok, Instagram, or both, and grow your presence there so you can attract brands to work with.

In this post, I’ll share tips on how to grow a TikTok account, even if you’re just starting out and have no idea what you’re doing.

Keep in mind that it can take months, so be patient. The UGC journey might be slow in the beginning, but once things take off, you’d be glad you stayed the course.

How to Grow a TikTok Account as a UGC Creator

1. Pick a Niche.

The first thing you need to be clear on as a new UGC creator is your niche.

TikTok loves clarity. If you’re trying to be everything at once, the algorithm and your audience will get confused.

Pick a niche and commit — for me, it was beauty, skincare, haircare, girly things, and UGC tips.

You can still mix it up, but make sure there’s a common thread.

Here are 10 questions to help you define your TikTok niche:

  1. What topics do I genuinely enjoy talking about, even when no one’s watching?
  2. What type of content do I already consume daily on TikTok?
  3. What do people often come to me for advice or recommendations on?
  4. What products, routines, or habits do I already use and love?
  5. Can I see myself creating content in this space long-term without burning out?
  6. Do I want to be the face of my content or stay behind the scenes?
  7. Am I more educational, entertaining, aesthetic, or a mix?
  8. What 3 creators do I admire most — and what do they have in common?
  9. What’s one thing I could talk about or show up for every day without getting bored?
  10. Would I want to get paid to create content around this topic?

2. Create UGC-Style Content (Even Without Paid Collabs).

You don’t need to wait for your first brand deal to post UGC. In fact, the fastest way to grow is to treat your TikTok like you’re already a full-time UGC creator.

Use products you already own (that have to do with your niche). Record mini demos, testimonials, voiceovers, tutorials, or aesthetic shots. These videos double as practice and content for your portfolio.

Think:
“I bought this so you don’t have to.”
“This is your sign to try this serum.”
“POV: You’re the brand I want to work with.”

Don’t overedit. Raw and real works best.

Being yourself is great for your brand and makes you stand out. So just focus on creating videos and posts and learn as you go. Let go of perfection.

3. Post Consistently.

You don’t need to post 5 times a day. You just need to keep showing up.

Start with 3–4 times a week. Batch film on weekends. Keep a running list of video ideas in your Notes app.

Some videos will flop. Some will pop off. That’s normal.

The goal is to build your content muscle and grow your presence. Not every video needs to go viral.

My goal is to post 1 video daily now. I try to batch create content. When I have a new product to share, for example, I make many photos and videos of it so I can present it in different ways and in multiple posts spread over time.

4. Engage.

Want TikTok to push your content? Be active on the platform.

Respond to every comment (especially in the first hour). Comment on other creators’ posts in your niche. Use comment replies to create new content.

Build real connections — that’s how you grow community and get noticed by brands.

5. Connect with Other UGC Creators and Follow Each Other.

One of the best ways to grow as a new UGC creator on TikTok is by connecting with others in the space. The UGC community is seriously one of the most active and supportive groups online. You’ll find creators at all levels sharing tips, encouraging each other, and celebrating wins — and that energy is contagious.

Start by following other UGC creators, especially those in your niche. Leave comments, like their videos, and share the ones that inspire you. You’ll start to notice that many of them follow back and engage in return.

Your follower count will grow faster this way. But it’s also about building confidence, staying motivated, and surrounding yourself with people who get what you’re doing. Collaboration and connection go a long way when you’re building your brand from the ground up.

I don’t really see other UGC creators as competition. Influencer marketing is so big these days that brands want to keep working with small and big influencers all the time, even if they’re just starting out. It’s still a win-win for them.

6. Act Like You’re Already Hired.

Let’s not forget why we’re here – to work with brands and get paid for posting content online.

But smart UGC creators who get deals don’t wait for permission. They create content that looks like it was paid for — and brands notice.

Use what you have. Tag brands. Use the hashtags they track:
#ugccreator #ugccreatorswanted #ugcbeauty #ugccampaigns

Add your UGC portfolio link in your bio (even if it’s just a Google Drive or your blog). Add an email address there too to show them you’re open to collabs.
Make it easy for brands to see what you do. This also helps you build confidence and take yourself seriously.

Meanwhile, keep posting new content daily or a few times a week. Each video can go viral, but even if that doesn’t happen, you can grow your TikTok account step by step.
