I wanted a hair transformation – to get rid of the parts that were too blond (from all the years of bleaching + highlights) as well as cover the roots and some grey hairs. But also, to have a more even color, a more neutral hair vibe that complements my light skin and brown eyes.
I went the DIY route, as I often do, but this time with permanent hair dye, and I chose Clairol Nice and Easy. I went for their Medium Ash Blonde tone.

I watched a few videos first, got 2 packages (as I have long hair) and went for it. It’s always a bit of a risk when you do something like that for the first time and at home, so make sure you can live with the consequences.
Inside the Clairol Nice and Easy package, you’ll find:
- Permanent color cream;
- Color activator;
- RevitaShine intense treatment;
- Pair of gloves.
The application is pretty simple. Mix tube 1 with bottle 2, shake, and apply on your hair.
If you’re only doing the roots, one package is enough. If you do the whole hair, make sure you have enough product and you apply evenly.
Here’s how I did it:
I waited 30 minutes, or maybe even 40 if we’re counting the time my hair was already covered in the product (I kept applying more after that for a better effect).
Then I washed my hair with shampoo and used the intense treatment cream they had (which softens the hair a lot), I did my haircare routine, dried it and saw the result.
I really like how it turned out. Not sure how long it will stay like this, but it was exactly what I wanted – to cover the blond parts which weren’t a nice color anymore, to cover my roots, and to give an overall ash blonde tone.
So I do recommend it.
Also, it’s the first time I use permanent hair dye, and yet I did it right, it seems like. I’m not naturally good at these things, so you might do even better.
I’ll keep using the Clairol Nice and Easy Medium Ash Blonde for a while, but might sometimes switch to a darker tone or another shade if I feel like. It’s the perfect solution for when you need a hair transformation on a budget.
Let me know if you too have tried the Clairol Nice and Easy dye and how it went.
